Sheesh guys, it seems people were REALLY keen to enjoy a weekend at The Capital Mirage Hotel.
Not that we can blame you all, the hotel has quickly become a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike.
They’re still rocking that winter special too (HERE), rooms starting from R1 530 per night complete with all the luxuries you need to stave off the cold.
Not that our winner has to worry about payment though – a quick recap of what our prize entails:
All our entrants had to do was email in and tell us what they think someone visiting Cape Town for a weekend needs to do before they leave.
Other than stay at The Mirage, of course.
Our grand prize winner then – Madeleine Morgan, take a bow:
Hi There
Here’s my take on what are some great activities and places for a tourist to take in to get a truly Cape Town experience on a whirlwind weekend.
I’ve broken it up into a mini schedule to highlight what diverse things you can pack in to just one day
Friday: (arriving late afternoon)
Take an Uber from the airport and after checking into your accommodation hit the Waterfront to catch the sunset cruise on the Peroni catamaran. Experience the sights of Clifton and Camps Bay the way they should be seen as the sun goes down – from the water.
After disembarking the cruise amble slowly through the Waterfront to the mall for some retail therapy and grab an evening meal at one of the many great dining options. I’d recommend Den Anker for some great food, beer and a view. Or Gibsons if what you really want is a great burger or a plate of ribs.Saturday:
Wake up early for a light breakfast and market vibes at the Biscuit Mill. Get their early to avoid the rush. You have a busy day ahead!
Head on to the Winelands in a shuttle (because, wine) and taste your way through Stellenbosch and Franschoek. Stopping at any of the farms or boutique restaurants for a laid back lunch in the sun.
I’d highly recommend Delicatessen at Tokara for their sculpture installations, top platters, killer view and relaxed vibe. The greenhouse at Babylonstoren is also divine (no bookings required) and you can get lost in their kitchen gardens.
Head back to your hotel for a power nap and get ready for a feast at the renowned Pot Luck Club (you will need to make this booking well in advance because yes they are that good). Stare at the silhouette of our lovely mountain while you dine and make sure you try some of their unusual cocktails to go with their ever changing tasting menu.
Head on home, sleep it off like the rest of Cape Town.Sunday:
Now to walk off all that indulgence.
Hike up Lion’s Head or Devil’s Peak if you have the energy or simply take the cable way to the top of Table Mountain if you don’t. There is plenty of exploring to do at the top even if you aren’t into getting too active.
If mountain tops, dassies and proteas are not your bag of chips then take the red bus on a Peninsula tour and hit Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town (and the penguins!) and Cape Point. If the weather is fine and the shark flags are down there is good swimming to be had.
I’d recommend lunching at The Brass Bell in Kalk Bay and soaking up the sun before heading back to the airport and wherever you have come from.Order some complimentary wine on the plane. It’s going to be a rough ride home. Because home isn’t Cape Town.
Never a truer word spoken – crack a wine on the way home and wave the mountain and sea goodbye.
