Go on, time to find out just how much of a naughty you-know-what you’ve been of late.

The City of Cape Town is getting smart with its technology, providing offenders with little excuse for not paying their fines.

At one stage the City introduced a system of sending SMS notifications for any outstanding fines, but now this system has been upgraded and you can pay via your phone too.

The City’s mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, divulged:

The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Service is adding another technological advancement to its arsenal with the roll-out of smart SMS technology that will allow motorists to pay fines via their cellphones, tablets or personal computers.

A service provider which has been testing the SMS technology for the past few months and who is responsible for generating and sending fine notices was looking at streaming the technology online.

Motorists would be able to click on a link that appears in the SMS they receive and view their fine through putting in their identification number.

Motorists would have additional options to download or e-mail the fine or even pay it directly from the link.

    Clever, ne?

While the aim of the technology is “to make life easier for our residents and take the pain out of paying traffic fines,” according to Smith the technology would ensure motorists received their fines timeously, without any postal system delays.

    Damnit, there goes another excuse.

Not only that, but the City would be able to “monitor exactly how many people have received the text message, opened it, and downloaded or paid the fine.” This technology will not replace any other forms of fine payment.

If you want to see what fines you have, go HERE. Be brave, you got this.

The pay-as-you-go service is available on Android, Windows, IOS, Blackberry, Symbian, and Linux and was compatible with desktops and mobile devices.
