I know Thursday was yesterday, and that’s usually the time one is supposed to throwback to the days of old, but this video deserves another look.
It’s been a humbling few weeks for the once great ANC, and no one is feeling the heat more than the beleaguered Jacob Zuma.
As he stood at the podium to deliver his speech at the IEC results ceremony last weekend, four incredibly brave women stood up.
As Richard Poplak so eloquently described the aftermath, “five pieces of paper had worked like a car bomb, blowing the night apart”.
We were reminded once again, because it’s easy to lose sight of these things sometimes, that there’s a woman out there who must watch these speeches with a rage burning inside of her.
Water off a duck’s back for Jacob, but let’s go back in time and examine how he handled those rape allegations and his acquittal.
If you have a little time to kill, and you want to better understand the rape accusations against Zuma, you can read the court’s findings HERE.
Maybe start from around page 40, and at least stick it out until the end of page 47. Listen to this woman recount the horror of lying in bed, feeling defenseless, as ‘the accused’ forced himself on her, whispering in her ear as he did so.
He was found not guilty in a court of law, I do acknowledge that, but what did she stand to gain from a false accusation? Her life was torn apart, she was forced to leave South Africa for her own safety, and worst of all she endured a trial where her entire sexual history was laid bare for the world to see.
The day that this man is cut loose from the ANC cannot come soon enough – we can only hope the next in line is someone with slightly more regard for those they are chosen to lead.
