There was a stage in my life when I went through cellphones at a rapid rate of knots, and I was forced to ask friends to use whatever old models they had lying around the house.
All the old Nokias, the Samsung flip phones, mobiles that doubled as self-defence weapons if anyone actually thought the phone worth stealing – I saw them all, and it was something of a trip down memory lane.
One person out in Parow was slightly better at hanging onto those older models than me, and I think we’re now at the stage where we can call them ‘vintage’.
Just take a look at these pictures from a Gumtree listing, titled ‘Vintage cell phones for sale’:
So the most obvious question then – what’s the price?
You’ll have to contact the seller for that one, but you get a feeling that one day collections like these could be worth a fair penny.
I think I’ll start searching through those old boxes and dusty cupboard drawers to see what’s lying around – making a quick buck by flogging a few items on Gumtree looks easy enough.
