Sometimes tracking down a murderer can take years, but the job is made a little easier when they live-stream a confession on Facebook.
Earl Valentine is the murderer in question, taking to social media moments after shooting ex-wife Keisha and 15-year-old son Earl Jr in North Carolina.
Keisha survived, but Earl Jr. succumbed to the chest wounds. More from Sky News:
Police Chief Taylor Bartholomew said Valentine shot his son after trying to help his mother.
“We actually got a call from the young victim with a dying declaration that his father had shot him and his father also shot his mother,” he said.
“It appeared the boy tried to intervene on his mother’s behalf and was also hit in the chest.”
Mr Bartholomew said he later spoke to Valentine on the phone, and described him as “cold and callous”.
Police launched a cross-state manhunt and said Valentine visited his father’s grave in Virginia before they traced him to a hotel in Columbia, South Carolina.
He was found dead in his room of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
