Yesterday we wondered aloud, along with much of the country, about the identity of the former national cricket player who landed himself in hot water.
You can read that HERE, and if you skim through to the end you’ll see we pointed you in the direction of a certain Thami Tsolekile.
Educated at Pinelands High School, in trouble with authorities before, 35 years old – you join the dots and it was pretty obvious.
Well today that was confirmed when Tsolekile appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on assault charges. This from TimesLive:
Disgraced former Proteas wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile bolted out of the [court] after a brief appearance on assault charges on Tuesday. His lawyer sneaked him out of the building through the back door.
‘Disgraced’ is certainly an apt word, considering how far from grace the former Lions skipper has fallen. Aside from the match-fixing scandal, which saw Thami handed a 12 year suspension from the game (HERE), he must now face another reputation-damaging incident:
The prosecution told the court that the investigation is still ongoing and witness statements are outstanding. The matter was postponed until October 10. The 35-year-old is out on a warning.
If this was an isolated story that saw a different cricketer accused of something similar I may be inclined to say ‘storm in a teacup’. Thami doesn’t earn that right though, with a long-rumoured history of being abrasive, but I guess only time will tell.
