Yesterday saw the start of Rurik Jutting‘s trial for the murder of two women after he held them hostage in a luxury Hong Kong apartment, raping and torturing them.

The jurors were shown a video of the former British banker describing how he raped and tortured an Indonesian women for three days before killing her. In the footage, Jutting stands shirtless, recording himself on his phone. Over to SkyNews:

“My name is Rurik Jutting. About five minutes ago I just killed, murdered, this woman here,” he tells the camera.

The camera pans down to show the body of 23-year-old Sumarti Ningsih, lying face down on the bathroom floor.

He holds up his hand, which appears to be shaking.

“It’s Monday night. I’ve held her captive since early Saturday, I’ve raped her repeatedly, I tortured her, tortured her badly,” he said.

He goes on to talk about using cocaine and prostitutes in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

In another video, Jutting, 31, can be heard apparently torturing Ms Ningsih before her death.

“If you scream I will punish you. Understand?” he says.

The sound of smacking and slapping follows.

While Jutting has admitted to killing both Ningsih and a second Indonesian woman, 26-year-old Seneng Mujiasih in 2014, he “denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.” SkyNews again:

He has pleaded guilty to a further charge over the unlawful burial of Ms Ningsih’s body, which he wrapped in plastic sheets and concealed inside a suitcase on his balcony.

His second victim’s body was found in a pool of blood on his living room floor with her throat cut.

Before going out to meet Ms Mujiasih, the prosecution says he bought a small blowtorch, plastic ties and a hammer, and hid two knives under the sofa cushions.

Both sides agree that Jutting met her in a bar and offered her money for sex, before bringing her back to his apartment.

She is said to have started screaming when she saw a rope gag near the sofa, at which point Jutting grabbed and killer her.

In one of his police interviews, he told officers he had gone out that evening “hunting for prey” and that she was his prey.

He called police to the apartment himself after the second killing, and claims to have started hallucinating after using cocaine.

Traces of the drug were found in more than two dozen small plastic bags in his apartment, according to the prosecution.

Jutting was born in Surrey and graduated from Cambridge University before moving to Hong Kong to work for Bank of America Merrill Lynch in 2013.

He has been evaluated fit to stand trial after psychiatric tests, and is currently being held at a maximum security prison.

If convicted he faces a mandatory life sentence.
