It’s not exactly difficult to start an argument online, but release a new doccie that purports to uncover a massive health conspiracy and you’re throwing petrol onto the fire.
The Netflix doccie What the Health aired in the U.S. back in March, and ever since then it’s sparked fierce debate.
Let’s start with the description from the doccie’s IMDb page:
An intrepid filmmaker on a journey of discovery as he uncovers possibly the largest health secret of our time and the collusion between industry, government, pharmaceutical and health organizations [sic] keeping this information from us.
And the trailer:
Some pretty big claims in there, and depending on who you ask it either delivers or flops.
If you ask Metro the “documentary will turn every meat-lover vegan” (how much do you wanna bet it won’t?), and Rise of the Vegan call it an “eye opening account of how we can greatly reduce our risk of many preventable diseases“.
Other reviews are less favourable, ranging from calling it “a hit piece by the sugar industry” to “Cherry Picking – Logically Fallacious”.
