  • Cape Town’s Favourite CBD Café Is Now Open Saturdays

If you’re the kind of person that can rise early enough on a Saturday morning to make it out for brekkie, you’ve probably got your list of go-to favourites.

Sure there’s plenty of choice here in the CBD, but there’s a new spot that’s really shaking things up.

Café du Cap is now open on Saturday mornings, 8AM through to 12:30PM (that takes care of the brunch gang), and they have all their midweek goodness plus some extra treats.

For a start you can still get the favourites – two eggs on toast (R35, stop it!), smashed avo, salmon with scrambled eggs, croissants with your choice of toppings and some authentic french toast.

Great, but it’s the Croque Monsieur that has really caused a scene. Here’s a write-up from 9Lives, a popular local lifestyle blog:

Café du Cap has done justice to this classic French sandwich, with deliciously smoky ham and creamy cheese on crispy bread, served with a simple iceberg and chive side salad. If all their food follows this standard, you’re in for a treat.

Spoiler alert – it does. Take a look at the full menu HERE – how about those cakes?

But back to the Croque Monsieur – get a load of this:

Take my money. Take it now. But only R65 of it, or R75 if you’re naughty and you go for the Croque Madame (that’s a cracked egg on top, pal).

It’s not just about the food, though, because the vibe also sets it apart. Again from 9Lives:

Wooden bistro chairs sit at grey marble tables, resting on a scatter of Afghan rugs on a bare concrete floor, all encircling the bustling kitchen at the center of the room. It feels as if every available space has been filled: Kaftans hang in one corner and vintage French homewear lines a shelf on the other end of the room. In between are plants, wine, woven baskets and hats, copper pans haging from the ceiling, even a selection of vegetables. A large couch to one end is covered in issues of FT Weekend, Monocle, Architectural Digest and Conde Nast Traveler to trigger that wanderlust during your lunch break.

There is a definite buzz to the place, but in a good way. Like someone’s home filled with chatting guests. Blues and lazy jazz music spills over the conversation, and you instantly feel life slow down a little.

I know Saturday mornings in Cape Town don’t normally operate at a breakneck speed, but who doesn’t want to drop down a gear to kick off the weekend?

Anyway, live a little and swing past Café du Cap this weekend. All the cool kids are doing it and it will look great on your Instagram feed.
