This is another one that will have me swearing online.

A bunch of idiots in the U.S. filmed themselves dragging a shark behind a speedboat at the end of October – but it’s not the only video with such content to be shared.

    Let’s hear from Huffington Post:

Since the shark footage surfaced, members of the public have shared other disturbing photos and videos that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is now examining as part of its investigation of the incident.

Of the videos that have since surfaced, one shows a man opening a protected Goliath grouper’s mouth while another pours beer down its throat. Another captures someone “funnelling a beer through a hammerhead shark’s gills and into another person’s mouth”.

Who are these sick people? And how can we stop them from doing it again? Apparently:

The FWC has not publicly identified the individuals involved in the shark speedboat video.

    They said on Facebook:

“Since the investigation is active, we can’t confirm the identities of the individuals, and it is too early to speculate as to what, if any, violations took place in this incident.”

But once again, the good people of social media took matters into their own hands, exposing two of the individuals from the shark videos as Michael Wenzel and Robert Lee “Bo” Benac.

This was after Mark Quartiano, also known as “marktheshark” on Instagram, said that he received a video of a shark being dragged from the aforementioned. Don’t bother looking for them – they both deactivated their accounts.

This is not lekker to watch:

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WTF IS GOING ON HERE ???? JUST GOT THIS ON MY FEED ! SENT FROM @bearjew428 AND @MICHAELWENZEL .FOR ONCE I MAY HAVE TO AGREE WITH @PETA. #WHODOESTHISSHIT #sowrong #notcool

Tom Mclaughlin who started the nonprofit Save The Tarpon has been watching Wenzel for two years:

In 2015, Save the Tarpon’s Facebook page shared photos from a social media account apparently belonging to Wenzel. Save the Tarpon’s post indicates that the man in the photos is not permitted to possess or harvest the fish he’s holding.

Even state federal officials have investigated Wenzel in 2015 after similar photos of him capturing and mishandling pelicans and a seagull, but they closed the investigation last January without filing any charges.

    Hoekom?

    Probably because:

Wenzel’s father is Manatee County’s planning section manager, Robert Wenzel. The Miami Herald identified Benac’s mother as Manatee County Commissioner Betsy Benac.

There’s an online petition demanding that the men go to jail and perform community service with over 57 000 signatures already.
