Nothing like a little mention of a local brand in an international magazine to warm your heart this Friday.
If you’re a reader of TIME, the American weekly publication, then you’re well-versed in its format.
Together with long-form reads and interesting columns, TIME tends to pop in great infographics which, based on numbers, gives the reader a chance to learn some tasty titbits of information.
This week’s edition, dated January 29, was no different.
The South African edition’s cover feature was a look at the changing climate of Antarctica. You might have picked it up in your dentist’s waiting room:
Yes, the Pac-Man / pizza-shaped iceberg is quite mesmerising, as are the rest of the images that accompany the feature. You can read more about that here.
But that’s not why we’re here.
Rather, TIME included a feature on long-distance deliveries. Inspired by a UK Indian restaurant’s commitment to delivering food to 50 expats on January 13, TIME featured three other noteworthy food deliveries, one being executed by Cape Town best pizza delivery company, Butler’s.
Check it out, at the bottom next to what looks like butter chicken – mmmm:
Yup, it really happened. 7 000 miles, which is more than 11 000 kilometres.
In 2001, to satisfy Corné Krige’s craving, Butler’s employee Bernard Jordaan booked a flight and hand-delivered the pizza to Krige’s hotel room in Sydney, Australia.
Although there’s no mention which pizza Krige prefers, the moment will forever be a part of history. It also shows off Butler’s commitment to the cause.
Coincidentally, the same article featured a column focused on the Cape’s drought:
Not to show off or anything, but Butler’s have long been doing what they can to assist in teaching people to save water. Pop onto their site and this is what you see:
Lekker.
