  • Zille Uses Malema Tweets To Support Argument That Apartheid Lives On

Julius Malema has been having a whale of a time these past few weeks, and he is revelling in the fact that the EFF and their allegiance in various municipalities holds much importance.

Currently in Julius’s firing line is the DA’s Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip, against whom the EFF have filed a notice of intent to bring a motion of no confidence.

Malema has previously stated that they are keen to remove Trollip because he is a white man, telling a crowd in Jozi two weekends ago that the colour of his skin was the deciding factor.

Some of what he said via Huff Post SA:

“Why? Why not [mayor of DA-led Johannesburg Herman] Mashaba, why not Solly [Msimanga – mayor of DA-led Tshwane]?

“Because the mayor of DA in PE is a white man. So, these people, when you want to hit them hard – go after a white man. They feel a terrible pain, because you have touched a white man.”

Over the weekend Malema doubled down on Twitter, responding to Trollip’s tweet about the EFF penchant for changing their minds:

Hmm, it’s almost like the ANC have stolen the ‘land reappropriation without compensation’ wind from his sails so he’s amping up the race rhetoric.

Trollip hit back, and it wasn’t long before Helen Zille decided to weigh in:

Not sure bringing up apartheid is the best way to win that argument, Helen.

Also hitting back was Mmusi Maimane, with this from News24:

Speaking after a media briefing on the DA federal executive conference outcomes on Saturday, party leader Mmusi Maimane said the motion of no confidence was motivated by the colour of Trollip’s skin.

“The decision by the EFF to punish the DA, and ultimately move against a DA-led mayor because of the colour of his skin, is a decision that we simply cannot accept,” Maimane said.

“We will mobilise public support to Save Nelson Mandela Bay, and have launched a petition for the public to sign. We encourage all public to sign our petition here.”

Petitions hey, still alive and well in the year 2018.

There’s a fantastic piece on the Daily Maverick from a few weeks back that speaks about Malema’s diminishing political options – read it here – so you can bet he’s going to carry on with the headline-grabbing antics as the year rolls on.
