  • Massive Rain In Cape Town Today – Starting After Lunch

If last week Wednesday was anything to go by, leaving the city this afternoon is going to be a shit show.

There’s just something about rain that washes away Capetonians’ ability to drive.

Above that localised phenomenon, there’s the bus strike to consider as it enters its sixth day, as well as Metrofail’s poor service, which often makes one feel like you’re travelling backwards.

Even the Western Cape government has weighed in, issuing a “Severe Weather Watch” warning (orange on map), which calls for “preparedness to weather hazards that most likely will occur within one to three days and that could lead to disruptive and disastrous conditions”:

In other words, expect flooded roads, fallen trees and upturned umbrellas flying through the sky (because as much as Capetonians can’t drive, they do know that when it rains, there’s no use for umbrellas).

You can play around with that interactive map here.

Then, below is a look at what’s expected by the hour today:

    And another look:

Oh, and don’t forget you can watch the cold front approach via the fantastic interactive map that is Earth.

Then, another cold front is set to hit the peninsula on Wednesday, with more than 12 hours of heavy rain falling between 1PM to 10AM the following day.

So, winter is here, hey? Hell yeah.
