  • It Would Take The Richest South African 13 Minutes To Earn Your Annual Salary

Being a billionaire is a dream that everyone has had at least once in their lives.

Hey, I’m not ashamed to be one of those dreamers, ’cause let’s face it – having billions stashed away is living the good life.

I’m sure you have a decent job that pays the bills, but whatever you’re bringing in looks like spare change in comparison to what the richest South Africans are making.

In fact, Business Tech decided to find how long it would take these billionaires to earn the average local salary (worked out as R238 300 – methodology here):

[They] worked out how much the wealth of the top five billionaires on the Forbes rich list increased over the past year, and how quickly it would take them to earn the same salary as their national average …

South Africa’s billionaire gains were not as dramatic, but they still earned a ridiculous amount in such a short time.

    These are the results:

On average, it would take these chaps a grand total of 14 minutes to earn the average South African salary.

In other words, practically in no time at all.

For Nicky Oppenheimer, the richest man on the list, he would earn the national average salary in approximately 13 minutes, at R306,63 a second. Koos Bekker lags behind with 18 minutes, but his net worth is much lower in comparison.

A nice tidy sum of R35,9 million, as you can see, but still less than Oppenheimer’s.

Even the highest-paying jobs in the country are no match for these billionaires:

It’s enough to put you off checking your payslip in case the figures look a bit bleak. Billionaire or not, however, it doesn’t mean that you don’t need to get your financial affairs in order.

Even if you’re not running an empire, putting your trust in someone like Consequence Private Wealth to handle your affairs is essential.

By making sound investment decisions now, they ensure you’ll prosper further down the road. No guarantees that it’s yachts and mansions, but understanding where you are going financially can be a very rewarding process.

You don’t have to be a billionaire to know that.
