Yup, just grab the entire ATM and deal with getting the cash out later.

That was the thinking of these thieves in Lady Frere, who stormed a Spar on Wednesday morning and loaded a stolen ATM into the back of their bakkie.

It seems the thieves were clued up, because the ATM just happened to be loaded with cash that very same morning.

CCTV footage shows the armed men simply unplugging the ATM and loading it onto the back of a silver Opel Corsa bakkie. The machine, owned by Cash Paymaster Services, is used by the South African Social Security Agency to pay out grants.

“We just heard people screaming as soon as the guys walked in. One of the guys then shot at one of the cameras,” said [store manager Jack] Magingsa.

“The store was really busy since people were withdrawing pension money,” he added.

If it’s not Bathabile Dlamini completely stuffing up the paying of social grants, it’s thieves.

According to police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni, no arrests have been made.
