The Ohio State University Marching Band are a very, very well-drilled outfit.
Over the weekend, and to celebrate their team’s first football game of the season, the band performed a medley of Queen songs.
You know they nailed it, because Queen guitarist Brian May tweeted his appreciation, saying “This is truly amazing! What an incredible amount of work went into this performance”.
Not sure he would feel the same way about Kanye’s effort at Glastonbury back in 2015, but let’s move on.
Before you watch, here’s what is in store via Rolling Stone:
The performance fittingly opened with Queen’s stadium anthem “We Will Rock You” before the marching band deftly transitioned into “Fat Bottomed Girls” as they spelled out Queen’s name in giant letters. The OSU Marching Band’s medley also included “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Bicycle Race” – complete with two bicycles speeding across the field – and a grand finale of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
I would say the best bits are when they form Freddie from 1:45, the bike at 3:30, and when they go full ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ from around seven minutes:
Yeah, some serious work into that, so I’d say it just pips that impromptu Tom Petty singalong from Florida.
Still, their most famous show of all time remains the Hollywood Blockbuster show, performed back in 2013:
