Before climbing into the legalities, it is important to understand that cannabidiol (CBD) oil is from hemp, not marijuana.

Both marijuana and hemp are varieties of the cannabis plant. Hemp is high in CBD, and marijuana is high in Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Whilst famed for its healing benefits, CBD oil does not have the psychoactive properties of THC.

Here’s an example of how the product is packaged and sold in South Africa:

Benefits of CBD oil* as sold online through websites like CURA OIL are numerous. They include:

    1. Reduced Risk of Diabetes and Obesity
    2. Better Cholesterol Profiles and Lowered Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
    3. Reduced Risk of Cancer
    4. Helps Maintain Brain Health and Create Resilience to Trauma and Degeneration
    5. Protects against Bone Disease and Broken Bones
    6. Protects and Heals the Skin
    7. Anti-inflammatory Benefits of CBD
    8. Anxiety and Stress
    9. Depression and Mood Disorders
    10. Pain
    11. Sleep Disorders (Insomnia, Sleep Apnea)

*see source link below this article for researched support to the above.

You can read up more about the health benefits of CBD oil here.

This brings us to the legalities regarding the sale of CBD oil in South Africa.

Whilst CBD oil has always been legal on its own in South Africa, the issue has always been about the use of cannabis for medical (or recreational) purposes, which was always illegal. But the much-celebrated judgement on September 18 of this year overruled the prohibition of private possession, cultivation and consumption of the plant in your own home.

The ruling therefore decriminalises the use of cannabis for medicinal reasons, like cancer patients, and those suffering from anxiety, PTSD, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, who were previously doing so illegally.

As a result, shopping for CBD hemp oil in South Africa is no longer a cloak and dagger affair. With CBD oil being sold by national retailers including Clicks and Dischem, it can also be bought online.

Check out CURA OIL to read up further on the product, which you can buy online for national delivery throughout South Africa.
