On November 11, a banner appeared outside the Taj Hotel in Cape Town.

The banner urged people not to stay at the Taj, citing bad service, theft and incompetent management amongst other reasons.

Now, the man behind the very public complaint, Amir Ahmed has come forward with his reasons for erecting the banner

He states that it all began in 2016, when a stay at the Taj resulted in the loss of two jackets and a watch.

    Here’s TimesLIVE:

In a letter to the hotel in July, Ahmed reiterated that he had brought to the attention of the hotel the alleged theft of his items during his stay in October 2016.

“After lengthy discussions by way of e-mail, the Taj Hotel Cape Town seems to have shown no further concern by simply advising that should I return to Cape Town [I should] lay a case with the police.”

He and his wife returned to the Taj in 2018 to sort out the issue. He said there was an arrangement that he would be contacted by e-mail if there were developments around the missing items.

To date, he claims that he has not received any emails from the Taj updating him on the whereabouts of his belongings. He also claims that during his stay at the Taj on June 23 of this year, the door key didn’t work and he and his wife were locked out of their room.

Ahmed said at a meeting on June 25, he and his wife were accused of conspiring with another guest to bring down the name of the hotel. He claimed that this was done in an “incredibly” aggressive manner without allowing him or his wife to explain.

He said on June 26 he got a letter instructing him and his wife to immediately leave.

When the Taj removed the offending banner outside the hotel, Ahmed opened a case of theft and it was returned.

Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the Taj is refusing to comment at this stage.

This guy is really setting the bar for future complaints about bad service.
