If you thought the prospect of a family vacation was terrifying (my apologies if I’ve triggered memories of Christmas past), Jordan Peele’s new horror flick is here to turn it up to 11.
The film, Us, although potentially not as politically powerful as his previous offering Get Out, follows a family on vacation – a vacation cut short when their evil doppelgängers show up to kill them.
Sounds simple enough, and the idea of strangers who aren’t really strangers showing up at a family home with bad intentions is a common theme in horror films.
The difference here is that Peele has a way with the uncanny, evident in the gripping first trailer for the movie. Take a look:
That alone will keep you awake for days.
Here’s Inverse with what Peele had to say about the film:
“Stories about monsters are one of our best ways of getting at deeper truths and facing our fears as a society,” Peele said at the event, adding that Us is “about something that’s become an undeniable fact: the simple truth that we are our own worst enemies.”
The film stars Black Panther actors Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke.
Us hits theatres on March 15, 2019, and is guaranteed to haunt your nightmares for a good while after that.
