  • Gucci Slammed For New ‘Blackface’ Sweater

There’s a fashion faux pas and then there’s Gucci’s latest offering, which has people on social media up in arms.

The fashion giants recently released their ‘Fall/Winter’ collection, which has been rebranded by the internet as “Haute Couture Blackface for Millennials.”

You’ll see why in a second.

The collection, which featured vintage ski masks and multicoloured knitted balaclavas, also featured a $900 “knit top” with a large mouth cover with big red lips on it, reports The New York Post.

The first crime here is that some people pay $900 for this stuff, and then there’s the design itself.

    Yeah, it’s pretty awkward:

Gucci has now recalled the sweater and removed it from their website, but pictures of it are still circulating online.

    Social media users aren’t impressed:

“Balaclava knit top by Gucci. Happy Black History Month y’all,” tweeted one person.

“Ah yes, black face but make it fashion,” another said.

User @stegotaurus wrote: “THIIIIIIIS is blackface guys. THIS. huge overdramatic red lips and a literal BLACK face. This is DISGUSTING. I don’t wanna see any of you with Gucci belts and slides after this.”

The Millennial reading glasses did nothing to improve the matter.

The backlash prompted Gucci to release a statement apologising for any offence caused.

“We can confirm that the item has been immediately removed from our online store and all physical stores,” the company added. “We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make. We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organization and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond.”

And we thought that vagina scarf from Fendi was bad…
