Australia can be a pretty weird place, so it follows that crimes committed there are probably going to be a little weird, too.
The most recent incident involves a jet ski, a crossbow, and a DJ Khaled reference.
According to Mashable, Australian Federal Police said that they arrested a man who was “likely a 57-year-old UK national” trying to flee Australia using a jet ski.
The man in question has an outstanding warrant for drug-related crimes in Western Australia.
The drugs might explain why he also thought it would be a good idea to take a crossbow with him.
Here’s TIME with more:
Authorities said the man was attempting to get to Papua New Guinea, and he nearly made it. He was apprehended on one of Australia’s northernmost islands, Saibai Island, in the Torres Straight, only about 3 miles from his destination.
“This arrest sends a strong message to would-be fugitives – our reach across Australia is second to none and we will use all our contacts and relationships to find you and bring you before a court,” a police spokesperson said, according to the statement.
The man has been detained and is being held by Queensland police, pending extradition to Western Australia. In the interim, the Australian Border Force posted about the incident on Twitter:
The Australian Police took it further, posting the incident on Facebook with a DJ Khaled reference:
The post reads:
We’ve learned from DJ Khaled over the years – repetitive catchphrases sell music and jet skis are NOT your friend.
It refers to the time that DJ Khaled got lost on a jet ski and Snapchatted the entire thing.
Words to live by.
