Independence Day isn’t just one of the greatest films ever made (sticking to my guns here), because it’s also all about the day that Americans celebrate the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

    July 4, 1776, history buffs.

America launched the OG Brexit when they declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain.

Two things of note happened this year to celebrate the Fourth of July.

First, Trump got a big boy’s military parade, which cost a fortune and made him feel big and powerful.

Secondly – and this is actually cool – PUMA released a special edition Fourth of July sneaker, based on its low-top ’80s basketball silhouette, the Palace Guard.

It’s quite possibly the most American shoe ever.

    Here’s HYPEBEAST,

The PUMA Palace Guard was introduced when it was worn by NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and was recently revived by PUMA Hoops in its OG Detroit Pistons-inspired colorway.

This time around, PUMA wraps the Palace Guard in grey suede and adds tonal embossed branding throughout, seen on the heel tab and the basketball-etched graphic on the tongue.

“4th July, 1776” has been inscribed into the lateral rear-quarter in the original 1776 Independence font, while the insole is decorated with the first sentences of the Declaration of Independence.

The sneaker is offset by touches of cream, seen on its cushioned polyurethane midsole, eyestays, laces and sock liner. Keeping in tune with the Independence Day theme, the PUMA Palace Guard “4th of July” also comes with a set of Stars and Stripes laces.

I’m not American, so the theme doesn’t appeal to me, but I can appreciate style when I see it.

    This is a stylish sneaker.

    ‘Merica!

If you’re keen for shoes with a little more South African flavour, head on over to PUMA Select to get your hands on some timeless designs, classic style, and creative collaborations.

There’s something for everyone, so you can celebrate your own independence in your own way.
