After months of hype, trash talk, and petty drama, YouTube made its final descent into the gutter as vlogger Logan Paul faced off against fellow YouTuber Olajide “KSI” Olatunji at a sold-out boxing match in Manchester last August.
Both YouTubers, famous for extreme content on their channels, had been taking a swing at each other online for ages and decided to take it to the ring.
After parading around pre-fight, much machismo, and eventually hitting each other for a few rounds, the match was declared a draw.
Then they started planning the rematch. Over a year later, and they’ve settled the score in a boxing match this past weekend that was watched by millions of people, and Justin Bieber.
Bieber was probably looking for tips after his failed attempt to get Tom Cruise to fight him.
Mashable will walk you through the match:
The professional boxing match, which took place Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, went to a split decision after six rounds. Two judges handed the bout to the UK’s KSI, with a score of 57–54 and 56–55. The third judge scored the bout 56–55 for Logan Paul.
The controversy surrounding the decision is thanks to a moment in the fourth round where Paul was penalized two points, which cost him the fight.
Paul landed an uppercut that sent KSI to the mat. On his way down, Paul whacked him on the back of the head to add insult to injury. This probably cost him the match.
Celebrities like Justin Bieber attended the rematch to cheer on Paul, but unfortunately for the YouTuber that wasn’t enough to pull off a victory.
Paul said he was open to a third matchup with KSI following the bout, but another rematch seems unlikely.
“It’s done,” said KSI post-match. “I’m onto the next thing.”
Small mercies. The highlights of the match for those of you who weren’t one of the millions watching:
KSI reacts to his win:
And Logan Paul thinks he won, even though he didn’t.
This is the world we live in now.
