Snakes tend to get a bad rap.

They really are more scared of you than you are of them, and any attack from their side is always as a last resort.

Still, most of us wouldn’t be thrilled if a sack full of them showed up, unannounced, which is what keeps on happening at the Farringdon Fire Station in Sunderland, northeast England.

CNN reports that 15 corn snakes and a carpet python were found in a pillowcase, in a bin behind the fire station over the weekend, just days after the first pillowcase of snakes was discovered.

The 16 snakes were taken to the vets and found to be in fairly good condition despite their ordeal, according to RSPCA inspector Heidi Cleaver.

The inspector said she “couldn’t believe” more snakes had been found in the “exact same spot” as the 13 royal pythons (above) who were discovered on Thursday. One of the snakes found last week has since died.

England is currently battling Storm Dennis, which has lowered temperatures considerably. Snakes need heat to survive, so dumping them in a bin, in the cold is incredibly cruel.

If the reptiles get too cold they may be unable to feed or move as normal, and their immune system may cease to function properly, leaving them vulnerable to disease.

That explains why they’re sitting so still in the picture above.

Here’s the latest bag of snakes:

Whoever is responsible for this shouldn’t be allowed near animals.

The RSPCA has appealed for information about the mystery surrounding the snakes being repeatedly dumped in the area.

The snakes are mostly happy and healthy now that they’re receiving proper care.

Treat animals with respect, and they will generally do the same.
