We’ve seen some weird name trends over the years.

A little while back, people were naming their kids after Instagram filters. Closer to home, in 2016, the most popular girl’s name in South Africa was Precious.

2019 brought a number of Jacksons, Avas and Aryas into the world. It’s also the year that Kingmessiah, Xxayvier, Cletus, and Chardonnay were trending for the parents who wanted to give their kids a head start on how tough life can be.

2020 is the year that brought us a global pandemic, and according to Al Jazeera, some coronavirus-inspired baby names.

A couple in India’s central state of Chhattisgarh have named their newborn twins Corona and Covid amid the country’s nationwide lockdown brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The twins, a boy and a girl, were born at a government hospital in the state capital Raipur on March 27, two days after the lockdown came into force disrupting daily lives.

Welcome to the world, Covid and Corona. Now prepare to spend the rest of your life giving people this explanation:

“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, my husband and I wanted to make the day memorable,” Preeti Verma [pictured above], the 27-year-old mother of the twins, told news agency Press Trust of India.

The couple said the names would remind them about the hardships they faced during the lockdown and before the successful delivery in a government hospital last week.

There is some meaning behind the names apart from the pandemic.

“Besides, these names are beautiful in their own, with Corona being Latin for crown,” added Vinay Verma, the father. “Also, we want the fear associated with these names to end and the public to focus on sanitation and hygiene.”

Unfortunately, Covid is a combination of ‘coronavirus and ‘d’ for ‘disease’.

    Not ideal.
