Baking is big right now as folks run out of ways to stay entertained during lockdown.
(If I see one more loaf of bread on Instagram, I’m going to throw my phone off the balcony.)
The baking trend appears to be a worldwide phenomenon. Flour, eggs, and whatever else goes into a cake fall under the purview of “essential items”.
This is, if we don’t count condoms, the most fun you can have with stuff you’re allowed to buy in the shops.
Comedian Laura Daniel decided to jump on the baked goods train, setting out to create a cake that pays tribute to New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern (above).
Ardern has lead the country in one of the most effective strategies to combat the coronavirus that we’ve seen to date.
Instead, this happened:

It’s definitely cursed.
Mashable writes that Daniel’s monstrosity was born out of an ill-advised bake-off with Hilary Barry, a presenter on current affairs show Seven Sharp.
“They say don’t bake your Heroes,” Daniel wrote after posting her finished cake on Instagram. “But I wanted to try anyway. I’m deeply sorry @jacindaardern I truly tried my best with what I had available… it’s made from another NZ icon lolly cake….”
Her Instagram post has gathered more than 5 000 ‘likes’.
The teeth aren’t edible, FYI. They’re falsies from a skit that Daniel did a while back on the Kiwi TV show Jono and Ben.
This is really stretching the old adage “it’s the thought that counts”, to its limits.
