Usually, when there is an altercation involving a cyclist on the road, there is a vehicle involved.
In Hermanus this past Saturday, though, it is a man on foot that tussles with a cyclist, although details remain scarce.
Cape Town Etc, who covered the story, simply said the captured CCTV footage “shows a cyclist being pulled from his bicycle by a pedestrian for no apparent reason”.
The person who uploaded the video to Facebook, Emmarentia Henstock, said that the man, Willie Auret, was “ripped off his bike” on the corner of Schulphoek Road and Mbeki Street.
As you can see from the time stamp, this occurred just before 1PM:
Some reports on social media suggest it was an attempted robbery, which is, sadly, all too plausible.
Thankfully, the cyclist appears to come away unscathed.
One thing’s for sure – the guy in the white bakkie who arrives from our lefthand side was coming in hot.
