There was a time when being called a ‘Karen’ just meant you had one of those haircuts, and were likely to ask to speak to the manager because you specifically asked for the dressing on the side.

In recent months, though, that has all changed, with anti-mask Karens filmed tormenting retail and hospitality sector workers, and a movie in the works as the meme took on frightening real-world consequences.

On October 31, if you want to dress up as something truly terrifying, why not go full Karen? A Los Angeles-based artist, Jason Adcock, is behind some pretty well-made Halloween masks, and says his background of working in retail has led to many encounters of the Karen kind.

Adcock, reports Business Insider, is selling two slightly different variations:

One is more in the scary realm, with the face twisted into an angry expression, complete with bulging red eyes and the inescapable blonde wig.

The other, which the artist noted on Instagram is the KAREN-19, is similar but is covered in warts and looks sick. The caption describes KAREN-19 as someone who “thought she was slick calling you all sheep and look what happened,” likely referring to those who downplay the COVID-19 pandemic.

Neither comes with a phone to call the cops on black people just going about their daily lives. The Karen masks don’t come cheap, and retail for $180 (around R3 000) a pop on Adcock’s Etsy page.

Masks are made to order, and don’t ship to South Africa, so you’ll have to make another plan.
