Donald Trump may have left the White House, but his influence over the future of the Republican Party remains strong.

When 10 Republicans in the House joined every Democrat in support of Trump’s impeachment, the backlash against them was swift.

Last week, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy even travelled to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump, as part of the GOP’s efforts to take back the House in 2022.

Perhaps most alarmingly, Republicans continue to deny that Trump’s rhetoric helped incite the storming of the Capitol on January 6, because they know that the majority of the Republican voter base still supports him.

That’s also why people like Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district, managed to nab a spot in Congress.

Consider that she repeatedly indicated support for executing prominent Democratic politicians in 2018 and 2019, frequently posted far-right extremist and debunked conspiracy theories on her Facebook page, and publicly harassed survivors of the Parkland school shooting, calling it a “false flag”.

17 people were killed, and 17 more injured, by 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, after he stormed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School armed with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle.

Oh, and she also suggested that no plane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that the Clintons killed John F. Kennedy Jr., and that the 2018 California wildfires were ignited by a space laser controlled by a corporate cabal, including the Rothschild banking firm.

This woman was publicly endorsed by Trump, won her election, and has now been assigned to the House education committee.

She was finally condemned by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, although he refused to call her out by name.
