Right now, the world’s largest cargo ship is the OOCL Hong Kong, with a carrying capacity of 21 413 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent units).
It’s impressive, but also potentially a hazard if the folks in charge of it don’t keep their wits about them.
Moving goods by container ship is one of the safest ways to get your cargo from point A to point B without a hitch.
Unfortunately, every so often, things can go horribly wrong, as they did for the ships in the video below.
To put it lightly, they didn’t quite reach their destinations unscathed, and in some cases, the cargo didn’t fair too well, either.
As the old saying goes: “The bigger they are, the harder they fall”:
And I thought my parallel parking skills were bad.
The world of shipping is difficult enough without container ships destroying cranes and rear-ending other boats.
I’m talking route optimisation, currency cover, tariff determination, customs regulations, packaging requirements, marine insurance and so on.
You know – all the fun stuff.
