The days are getting progressively shorter and colder, which means that on top of everything that we’re dealing with on the health front, it’s once again time to start thinking about fortifying yourself against the inevitable winter colds and flu.

One of the ways that people are staying on top of things, is by incorporating food into their diets that help the old immune system stay in decent shape.

Ginger has become pretty trendy because it has antibacterial properties, contains antioxidants, and can be used to treat the common cold and nausea.

The demand for the root was so high at one point that prices started to skyrocket.

Ginger isn’t the only vitamin-rich food attracting attention at the moment. If you’re keen to add a few more to your grocery list, here’s what to look out for.

    Oranges, Apples, and Lemons

Citrus fruits, like oranges and lemons, are an excellent source of vitamin C, a nutrient that strengthens the immune system. In fact, one medium-sized orange contains all the vitamin C that you need to get through the day. Other vitamins in the humble citrus fruit include B vitamins, potassium, phosphorous, and magnesium.

Apples are high in antioxidants, and also contain vitamin C.

    Turmeric

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. It neutralises free radicals on its own but also stimulates your body’s own antioxidant enzymes.

    Echinacea

Echinacea, also called purple coneflower, is becoming an increasingly popular herb worldwide. It has been used to treat pain, inflammation, migraines, and other health issues, but is most commonly used to treat the common cold or flu.

Echinacea plants contain an impressive variety of active compounds and are high in antioxidants, which can help to defend your body against stress that could lower your immune system.

Combine ginger, apple, oranges, lemons, turmeric, and echinacea and you have a pretty powerful immune booster.

But, if you’re like me, the idea of both sourcing and then combining those ingredients into something drinkable requires more effort than I can muster at this point in time.

There’s also no guarantee that the method you’re using at home will retain all of the vitamins and nutrients that you need.

In addition, did I mention the price of ginger? It’s insane.

Of course, you can always bypass the admin with a health shot.

Sir Fruit has combined all of those ingredients into a single shot, which you can knock back in the morning (and the evening, why not?).

    They’ve also added more good stuff like vitamins B3, B5, B6, B12, 100% RDA vitamin C, and 166% RDA vitamin D.

It’s a potent tonic that gives you the boost you need without the effort of going to the store, because you can stock up online.

The best part is that rest and relaxation have proven to be crucial in terms of staying happy and healthy. Just throw in the series that you’re binge-watching in between naps while you wait for your order, to the list of ways that you’re fending off the sniffles.
