In March 1995, Maurizio Gucci, once the head of the eponymous fashion house, was gunned down by a hired hitman.
The investigation went off in several wild directions, which amounted to nothing, before investigators were able to untangle the assassination plot, leading them to his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani.
The hit was provoked by her bitterness towards her ex-husband, his handling of the business, his relationship with her, and his upcoming wedding to a younger woman.
Her notoriety lives on, with the woman nicknamed by the press covering her trial as “Lady Gucci” to be portrayed by Lady Gaga in the upcoming Ridley Scott film about the murder, House of Gucci.
The role of Maurizio Gucci will be played by Adam Driver.
According to Marie Claire, filming is well underway, with some big names set to appear in the credits alongside Gaga, including Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney.
No trailers or teaser trailers have been released yet, but we do have some pics of Gaga and Driver on set in costume.
These snaps of Gaga feeding Driver, as Marie Claire puts it, “an unspecified pastry”, seem to be garnering a lot of attention on the internet.
We’re not sure why he needed help eating the mysterious pastry, but I’m sure he had his reasons.
I’ll leave you with this 2016 true-crime documentary that goes into the murder, if you’re keen to know more:
