Face masks.
People either wear them diligently or they abandon them entirely.
Some will make it a high-tech fashion moment, some will do anything to avoid putting a real mask on, and others have thrown major tantrums.
Enter Josh Paler Lin and Leia Se, who decided to take it to the next level.
The YouTubers made a prank video in Bali where they painted a mask on Leia Se’s face so that they could enter a shop that had turned them away before for not wearing PPE.
According to CNN, the video, which was posted on April 22, went viral.
Lin has a whopping 3,41 million subscribers on YouTube, who watched her pull this stunt.
Hey, if it makes you go viral on YouTube then it’s worth it, right?
Wrong. They are now facing possible deportation from Bali and have reportedly had their passports seized by the local government.
The original video has since been taken down, but the internet has its ways.
Here it is:
Indonesia is very strict about mask-wearing with “police allowed to issue fines on the first offence and deport foreigners on the second offence”.
A police statement makes it known that Lin is from Taiwan but lives in the United States, while Se (who goes by the name Lisha online) is a Russian citizen.
“They will be examined together with Immigration to take the decision on whether or not to deport them,” I Putu Surya Dharma, a spokesman from the regional office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Bali, confirmed to local media.
They seem to be sorry for their silliness, and are wearing real masks in their apology video uploaded on Instagram:

The video is subtitled in English and Indonesian, and backed by their lawyer.
“The intention to make this video was not at all to disrespect or invite everyone to not wear mask,” Lin says. “I make this video to entertain people because I am a content creator and it is my job to entertain people.”
Later, he adds: “we promise not to do it again.”
The words ‘think before you act’ have never been more appropriate.
