When Britney Spears’ socials went dark in 2017, podcasters Tess Barker and Barbara Gray of Britney’s Gram started the #FreeBritney movement.

What followed was something that Rolling Stone described as “a pop-music version of Watergate” that would resurface on and off for the next few years.

Now, Spears has called out two recent documentaries that focus on her mental health struggles and the #FreeBritney movement.

The New York Times and Hulu produced Framing Britney Spears which came out in February, while The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship, directed by Mobeen Azhar aired this past weekend on BBC.

Per The Guardian, Framing Britney Spears refocused attention on Spears’ ongoing conservatorship and the #FreeBritney movement that believes that it traps her against her will.

When this documentary came out, Britney told fans on Instagram that she was so “embarrassed by the light they put [her] in” and that she “cried for two weeks”.

In a recent Instagram post, she seems to address The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship directly, referring to one of its sources who claims to be in contact with her:

“I don’t actually talk to Billy B AT ALL so I’m honestly very confused,” she wrote.

She goes on to decry the relentless focus on her traumatic past:

“Damn … I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I’ve had some pretty tough times in my life … I’ve had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life and unfortunately my friends … I think the world is more interested in the negative 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ !!!!”

“Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ????” she adds.

    Here’s the post:

If you scroll down to the comments, a lot of them don’t exactly trust that it’s truly Britney’s feelings or words:

“Nah sis, do a video of you saying all of this and maybe I’ll buy it.” – bridunn116

“put more emojis in, that’ll make it look real, go on, a few more” – 1drunkman

“Something smells fishy here and I don’t think it’s the koi pond” – ken.joy.yw

Fans are likely on the edge of their seats waiting for what she will say when she gives a rare address to a Los Angeles court on the matter of her conservatorship on June 23.

She says that she is living her best life in this recent Instagram post but, hopefully, her actual voice brings some clarity to the vacuum of speculation and conspiracy that surrounds her.
