To bust out an old Game of Thrones classic, winter is coming.

Parts of the Western Cape have been hit by storms over the past 24 hours, and Cape Town can expect rain and chilly weather through to the weekend.

As we haul out the heaters and the electric blankets, it’s also an important time to remember that many South Africans don’t have that luxury.

One man who knows that better than most is Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, and together with Rachel, the Kolisi Foundation has teamed up with South Africa’s leading self-storage company, Stor-Age, to help under-resourced communities across the country.

Their initial project with Stor-Age is a nationwide blanket drive. The public is invited to give the gift of warmth this winter, by donating a blanket at any of the 51 Stor-Age stores across the country.

Check here to see where your closest Stor-Age store is.

The blankets will then be distributed to communities throughout South Africa, and together Stor-Age and the Kolisi Foundation are aiming to collect thousands of blankets over the coming weeks.

Here’s Chris Oosthuizen, spokesperson for Stor-Age:

We have been pleased to see how the Kolisi Foundation has grown since inception and impressed with what they have achieved thus far. We’ve worked with numerous non-profit organisations over the years and look forward to playing an active role in the Kolisi Foundation’s future growth and working closely with the team on their various projects and community upliftment initiatives.

As a thank you to everyone who is taking part in donating a blanket at one of our stores over the coming weeks, we will be offering a month of free self storage.

Good karma, helping somebody in need, and you score a month of free self-storage. It’s hard to argue with that.

The nationwide blanket drive began yesterday (May 5), and will run until May 19.

Find your nearest Stor-Age store here, and you can also contact rob.baird@stor-age.co.za should you have any questions.
