Straight out of KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg is a new crime-drama thriller, Reyka.
You might not necessarily be up for it, since we’ve already seen a fair share of harrowing footage from those regions in the past few weeks.
Then again, perhaps a more fictional show can be somewhat cathartic.
Reyka has received rave reviews internationally after a screening at the 60th Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June, reports SA People.
Plus, it stars a number of talented South African actors, including Kim Engelbrecht (The Flash, Dominion) as the lead, Reyka, alongside the acclaimed British actor from Game of Thrones, Iain Glen, who plays Angus Speelman.
The eight-part series oscillates between 1994 and the present day, as we watch Engelbrecht’s character pour herself into her job as a criminal profiler trying to find a serial killer.
The show is layered and complex as Reyka is also battling childhood trauma after being kidnapped when she was younger.
Watch Engelbrecht and Glen chat about the show:
M-Net also has more on what to expect from the first episode:
Reyka will debut this Sunday, July 25, at 8PM on M-Net.
