Yesterday was Tim Bergling’s birthday.
He would have been 32, but he tragically took his life in 2018.
Bergling was better known as the superstar DJ Avicii, and to pay tribute Google honoured him with yesterday’s Google Doodle.
If you clicked on the Doodle, you were redirected to this video, which forms part of the company’s push to raise awareness during National Suicide Prevention Week:
The Google Doodle was created by artists Alyssa Winans, Olivia When, and Sophie Diao, and got the stamp of approval from Avicii’s father, Klas Bergling.
He told NME:
“The Doodle is fantastic, my family and I feel honoured and Tim would have been very proud and love it.”
“It is a friendly and warm story of a young man fulfilling his dream to be a DJ and at the same time telling us that our journey in life is not always easy despite fame and fortune.”
Avicii’s struggles with the rigours of superstardom are perhaps best documented in the BBC documentary, Avicii: True Stories.
Made from extensive personal and family footage, and offering gut-wrenching behind-the-scenes footage, the film is an unparalleled insight into his life.
You can watch it online in full here, but this five-minute clip which has been viewed almost three million times offers a good summary:
Another reminder that the life of a jet-setter celebrity is often not as glamorous as it appears from the outside.
