Facebook is now Meta, and you’re all invited to the metaverse.
Even if you’re not that keen, Facebook is going to find you and make it happen.
Aside from a possible naming issue, Meta is going full steam ahead. The marketing campaign includes some odd promo videos featuring Mark Zuckerberg.
The half-human half-robot co-founder with a penchant for wearing way too much sunscreen has now come under fire from the country of Iceland.
Out with the metaverse and in with the ‘Icelandverse’. More via The Verge:
In a nearly two-and-a-half-minute video, a man who is identified as Chief Visionary Officer Zack Mossbergsson begins a discussion about “a revolutionary approach on how to connect our world without being super weird.”
…The rest of the video is a hilarious pitch for the “Icelandverse,” which he describes as an “enhanced, actual reality without silly-looking headsets.”
All in all, I’m a fan of the ‘Icelandverse’:
It’s like a Gollum – Zuckerberg hybrid.
Your personal data is ‘my precious’.
To the Facebook co-founder’s credit, he took it in his stride:
