Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee will forever be linked due to the most notorious sex tape of all time.
It was only a matter of time until that story was dramatised and here comes Pam & Tommy.
The series is rather surprisingly produced by Disney+ (not their usual fare) and shooting hasn’t been without the odd hiccup.
We covered the first trailer last year with the second released earlier this month.
The series stars Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier, the jerk who stole Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s sex tape and put it on the internet. Sebastian Stan plays Tommy, and Lily James is Pamela Anderson.
Rounding out the cast is Taylor Schilling as Gauthier’s wife, and Nick Offerman as infamous pornographer Uncle Miltie (not to be confused with infamously well-endowed comedian Uncle Miltie).
The limited series will follow the whirlwind romance, honeymoon, burglarizing, and litigation of the titular Pam and Tommy.
The eight-part series will air on Disney-owned streaming service Hulu from February 2.
Right, so about that hiccup. The Guardian reports that there was “pushback” against one scene:
According to the show’s makers, a scene featuring Sebastian Stan (who plays Lee) having a conversation with an animatronic version of his own genitals initially baffled the network who commissioned the programme…
[Writer Robert] Siegel says the scene was not his own invention, but hails from Lee’s autobiography, Tommyland. “As much as I’d like to take credit for that, I was simply adapting a chapter from [Lee’s] memoir,” says Siegel. “I think it might be a first [for television].”
…Shooting the scene involved a team of specialist technicians, responsible for bringing the replica genitals to life. “You’ve got four puppeteers working with an animatronic penis,” commented director and executive producer Craig Gillespie, who described the shooting process as “just awkward”.
The penis is voiced by Jason Mantzoukas, perhaps best known as Adrian Pimento in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
What a gig to tell your parents about.
