Netflix is putting feelers out for 456 participants to compete in a life-changing reality TV show, which is an enthusiastic nod to the fictional and original Squid Game series.

Yep, they’ve gone and done it.

The only difference is that the stakes are not exactly a matter of life or death (phew). Instead, the world recruits will have to battle against “the worst fate” which is “going home empty-handed”.

That means missing out on a $4,56 million prize – a whopping R73 million or so.

The 10-episode series, Squid Game: The Challenge, is willing to give “the largest cast” of competitors the chance to win the “largest lump cash prize in reality TV history”, per the BBC.

South Africans are more than welcome to participate, just FYI.

Here’s more from Netflix’s announcement yesterday:

“As [players] compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them,” it added.

Don’t @ me rifling through the Squid Game episodes to figure out how to tweak the odds in your favour.

    Business Insider has more:

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of unscripted and documentary series, in the statement.

On the website for applicants, you’re asked: “How far will you go?”

To enter, you have to be at least 21 years old, must speak English, own a valid passport, and be available for up to four weeks in early 2023 for filming, which will take place in the UK.

You will also need to provide Netflix with a quick video introducing yourself, speaking briefly about why you want to be on the show, what your game strategy will be, as well as what you would do with the massive cash prize.

This may be exactly what Netflix needs to bring in much-needed subscribers.

Especially because fans still have to wait until late 2023, or even 2024, for season two of Squid Game to come out.

One more time – you can find details on how to apply here.

See you on the battlefield, players!
