We’re in the throes of winter so lounging beachside in Plettenberg Bay may not be at the front of your mind.

Tragically, Plett is in the news after a shark attack yesterday claimed the life of a male swimmer at Sanctuary Beach, on the Robberg side of Robberg 5.

Come the end of the year and the return of summer, you can bet the beaches will once more be packed and the cost of renting a home will spike.

Of course, you can always negate those peak period rental spikes by buying your own spot. How does it feel to be on the other side of the equation?

I wouldn’t know, although earlier this week I did have a gander at what the top-end of the Plett property market looks like.

R50 million scores you a 13-bedroom home in The Crags, about 20 kilometres outside of central Plett, or you could fork out R42 million and snap up the iconic Milkwood Manor.

In my dreams, I’m after something central that I don’t have to operate as a business so this Property24 listing for a beachfront five-bedroom home in Whale Rock Beach Estate will do me just fine.

Double-storey with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean and Robberg Peninsula – yes, please:

Entry to the home is via a private courtyard which leads to the lower-level lounge, dining room, kitchen, sunroom/casual entertainment spaces, study and four of the five bedrooms as well as two swimming pools and guest toilet.

The internal patio and pool are surrounded by walls of glass. The sunroom/casual living area accesses the garden and second pool directly via glass sliding doors. Irrespective of the weather, there will always be a protected entertainment area in this home.

A light stroll down to the beach and back again. Perfection.

It’s also just a two-minute drive to Robberg Nature Reserve and a five-minute drive to central Plett.

Most high-end property listings these days come with a video tour so strap in:

The write-up mentions that the master bedroom, located on the upper level of the home, has a generous dressing room and its own private steam room.

Load shedding can be overcome thanks to the home’s three Tesla Powerwalls, which are rechargeable lithium-ion battery energy storage products.

You can see the full listing here.
