Is it just me, or is the present feeling rather dystopian?

Never mind the future, where authorities control everything from a woman’s womb to a button that can trigger the ultimate nuclear war, right?

That shit is happening right now.

In line or in response to all that – it is hard to tell – the British Army’s new recruitment drive to attract thousands of soldiers says something terrifying about the times we find ourselves in.

The campaign, called ‘Nothing Can Do What A Soldier Can Do’, aims to inspire human soldiers to sign up for some kind of war by framing them as superior to robots:

The one-minute video – which will be strewn across billboards and shown in cinemas, on television, and online – argues that while technology is important, only soldiers can make the necessary and instinctive decisions on the ground in a conflict zone.

    Ready yourself:

The idea is to “dispel one of the many myths” of the British Army, according to Colonel Nick Mackenzie, assistant director of recruiting.

Crazy to see the new campaign in contrast to the original form of the famous 1914 British recruiting poster designed by Alfred Leete:

I guess the British Army can’t rely on Top Gun: Maverick to inspire new recruits, unlike their US counterparts.

Also collaborating on the campaign, the MD of Capita Defence, Fire and Security, Richard Holroyd, had a few words via Sky News:

“While we live more of our lives online and increasingly in augmented realities, it’s easy to believe that the future of any armed force is now about mass robotic units managed by unfeeling AI.

“As a former soldier, I know that will simply never be the case. Technology must work alongside the human ingenuity of soldiers and personnel – the army of the future still needs you.”

Per the Mirror, this campaign is the sixth of the ‘This is Belonging’ series developed by the recruitment giant Capita and the British Army.

    Yikes, yikes, and more yikes.
