Technically, you’re not about to be “Rickrolled”.

Although, since Rick Astley is rolling with the punches (read: memes) so well, even 35 years after releasing his mega-hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, you’re actually about to be beyond “Rickrolled”.

Rickrolling is a bait-and-switch internet prank that involves a hyperlink leading to Rick’s music video instead of the topic at hand.

The internet trend has tickled everyone from Greta Thunberg to the Foo Fighters, with Rick himself getting in on the action a fair few times.

Rick has been rickrolled, he has “professionally ‘Rickrolled’ people many times,” and he has just recreated the original music video in an effort to keep the ball rolling, per The New York Post:

Now 56, the singer dances against backdrops similar to the original video, including the stage in a church hall, in front of a big, foggy window, and outside in front of several brick structures — but, this time, with some promotional twists.

    Roll tape:

    Too much rolling? Never.

In the AAA Insurance version, an agent even does the same straddle jump that the male bartender does in the original:

Rick may have grown up but he is still very much keeping his youth alive:

Astley said that paying homage to the original “has been an amazing trip down memory lane.”

“The song has been so good to me, and I’m thrilled to be working with another iconic brand that has certainly stood the test of time,” he added.

As Rick told the Associated Press in June, “the video and the song have drifted off into the ether and become something else, and I’m ever so grateful for it”.

Rickrolling has helped the original video rack up over 1,2 billion views on YouTube.

The success of the tune even landed him on the 57-date “The Mixtape Tour 2022” with New Kids on the Block, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue earlier this year.

I reckon we should just face the fact that ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ is an indelible part of the internet now.

    That’s fine by me.
