Success has no age limit and when it comes to education, it’s never too late to go get it! Whether it be to improve yourself or seize an opportunity you never had before, Adult Matric programmes are here to offer you a second chance.

Available to anyone over the age of 21, Adult Matric provides an opportunity to attain your matric certificate if you were unable to before or you’re looking to make up a previous qualification. Provided you pass the programme, your matric qualification will grant you access to higher education institutions to further yourself and your studies, or upskill yourself to land that dream job.

When it comes to Adult Matric and standard high school matric, they’re the same in terms of curriculum and qualification. Both Adult Matric and high school matric are taught the South African CAPS curriculum and awarded a matric certificate once completed. Aside from having to be 21 years old or older to register for Adult Matric, the only real difference is the time period in which you complete it. As opposed to the one year you do in high school, Adult Matric is generally done in 2 years (24 months).

Upon completion of Adult Matric, there are a few ways in which you can pass. Depending on the level of your pass, Bachelor’s Pass, Diploma Pass or Senior Certificate, you can either further your studies at degree level or diploma level.

A matric certificate is a legal requirement when applying to study at any higher education institution in South Africa. Passing your matric allows you to further your studies in the field of your choice at tertiary level.

When applying for job opportunities, the minimum requirement is generally having a matric certificate. You can use your matric certificate to gain experience at entry-level jobs and build yourself up in your work field.

One of the most significant advantages of obtaining your matric certificate now is that it can be done online. No more crowded classrooms or spending money on petrol, you can learn from the location of your choice with structured flexibility. Learning modules are easily accessible and on hand, for any time you need to revisit a topic, you’re unsure about or for future reference.

The flexibility of online learning is a factor that is appealing to working professionals. Online learning allows working individuals to fit their studies into their busy schedules. You can comfortably pass your matric with online learning.

In a quest to innovate and be at the forefront of creating an equitable and innovative education system on the continent, UCT Online High School has announced that it will be offering an Adult Matric programme, with the first cohort starting January 2023.

Delivered entirely online, it will provide a second chance for those who were unable, or never given the opportunity, to write their South African matric exams when they were young — because it’s never too late to enable a better future for you and your family.

Applicants must be 21 years old or older when they complete their final exams. Head over to UCT Online High School’s website and sign up to get more information on this exciting new product.
