I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, stay out of the way of the South African minibus taxis.

Not only are a lot of them a part of syndicates with criminal elements, but they are also solely responsible for lugging the majority of Cape Town’s workforce from the outskirts of the city to the CBD and surrounds (and back).

Even though the taxi associations torch Golden Arrow buses and intimidate e-hailing drivers on the fly so that they can maintain a monopoly on transport in the region…

The point is, if you cross a stressed-out taxi driver with a point to prove, you may just regret it.

An incident unfolded in Durbanville on Tuesday where a gun-wielding Cape Town taxi driver allegedly smashed the car windows of a motorist who had been accused of hitting the taxi.

In the video, you can see the taxi driver fetch a gun before hitting the front window with his bare hand, while the motorist screams: “I’ve done nothing wrong”.

The taxi driver proceeds to smash the back windows, which is when the motorist starts shouting “I’m sorry,” which the taxi driver responds to with insults and asks him why he bumped his vehicle:

Per News24, the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the taxi driver has been arrested and the victimised motorist is cooperating with the police to determine the charges against the driver.

A case of malicious damage to property was opened.

Apparently, the 27-year-old driver did not have a permit for the route and would appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged.
