Your in-flight meal today includes chicken, beef, or a highly venomous Cape cobra.
Private pilot, and ‘now snake charmer’, Rudolf Erasmus, has been hailed a hero after a Cape cobra snuck onto his plane before making his presence felt at an altitude of 11 000 feet in the air.
Erasmus first realised that something was amiss when he felt a cold sliver run up his back, only for the sliver to turn into one of South Africa’s most venomous snakes. The experienced pilot managed to stay calm, and while most likely praying for zero turbulence managed to divert the aeroplane to Welkom, where they safely landed.
Erasmus and his four passengers escaped the encounter with no injuries or snakebites, but we are sure their underpants are toast.
A snake handler was called in to remove the snake, but as yet he is still onboard and the passengers and crew will be forced to stay overnight in Welkom and resume the search tomorrow.
You can listen to an interview the pilot had with GoldFM Station Manager, Brian Emmenis below. Take a moment to appreciate how cool this cat sounds after almost starring in Snakes On A Plane 3.
Thanks Stevie!
