The Y2K Nostalgia Has Peaked With These Vintage-Looking Running Shoes Inspired By The 2000s

Although these shoes have the 2000s written all over them, they are definitely 'in again' enough to add to your 2023 rotation.

‘Vintage’ and the ‘2000s’ in the same sentence seem like a bit of a spoof, but the era is far away enough now to be considered ‘vintage’.

I know, darling, I feel old, too.

As you may well have sensed, there’s a mass head-turn towards the 90s and 2000s in fashion lately, with girls donning those ludicrously low-waisted jeans in a bid to follow in Kate Moss’s heroin chic shoes – sorry, not for me, the muffin-top PTSD is too close to home – and dudes sagging their pants down low so that their jocks show like the hip hop gods of the era.

Now it seems that everyone is looking for vintage-looking running shoes, notes GQ, and the best ones come straight out of the 2000s.

PUMA has taken it upon themselves to fill this gap – if you don’t already have a pair of old sneakers in the back of your cupboard – introducing the cool-looking PUMA Velophasis.

The Y2K running-inspired silhouette pulls from past PUMA archives, keeping performance at its core:

This range specialized in running shoes, which was born around twenty years ago, has contributed to the emergence of several key technologies for PUMA (iCELL, e+CELL, EverRide) and, therefore, has allowed the development of the PUMA Velophasis, a pair with an unsurprising silhouette whose appeal lies in the inserts and mixes of materials.

The textured panels and the honeycomb mesh used in the Puma Velophasis give the sneakers character and make their look a bit provocative, particularly the colors chosen take up the visual codes of the 2000s culture.

The colourway of the Phased is eye-catching in electric blue and neon orange like the “Vaporwave movement meets the Internet culture of the 2000s in a bright explosion that contrasts the pretty toned-down design” notes High Snobiety:

The Luxe Sport Velophasis is a vegan-certified iteration that features a textile upper with intricate graphic details on the side, fit for a futurist runway. It comes in two cool as heck colourways:

Although these shoes have the 2000s written all over them, they are definitely in again enough to add to your 2023 rotation.
