Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day to all the pizza lovers out there. Yes, today marks the anniversary of the first time someone used Bitcoin to buy a pizza. Because why not?
Ten years ago today, the first real-world Bitcoin transaction took place when a man in Florida paid 10,000 bitcoins for two large pizzas. A programmer by the name of Laszlo Hanyecz used the ‘new’ digital currency to buy the pizzas for, at today’s exchange rate, R 5.26 Billion. That’s a lot of extra bacon and avo.
Although it seems absolutely bonkers in hindsight, it was a big moment for crypto and marked the first time the currency was used to buy actual real-life products.
To celebrate this momentous day for crypto and pizza fans alike, Butler’s has opened Bitcoin lightning payment to all pizza fanatics out there, and just like the crypto/pizza pioneer, Laszlo, you can now order pizza from Cape Town’s favourite pizza place, using Bitcoin Lightning.
Bitcoin Lightning is a payment protocol layered on top of Bitcoin which enables fast transactions and even faster pizzas.
In fact, it’s so fast that Butler’s will be throwing a Lightning Party for those lucky, and quick enough, to be on their mailing list.
The first 350 will be in line to enjoy some free pizzas, including the revolutionary new Rotherham 2.0, Funky Fab 2.0, and much more. If you miss this draw, you will have to wait for next year, so make like lightning and sign up!
Alternatively, you can add your name to The Butlerverse ‘sPizza Lightning Party here.
If you find yourself outside of the Butlerverse, you can also email our very own Pizza Lover-in-Chief, Seth Rotherham, at editor@2oceansvibe.com, to request a place on the Lightning Party guest list.
Times almost up, so make like Lightining!
