You never know what awaits you when you stroll through the ‘Company Gardens’ in Cape Town.
Sometimes it’s a renegade albino squirrel attacking a group of American tourists (true story), while other days you might bump into the ‘Sungazer’, the black-bag-wearing local weirdo who always stares into the sun while applauding passersby.
Amongst these Cape Town ‘institutions’ in the Gardens, there is always the sound of a busker drifting through the trees. Sometimes they’re pretty good and you stop for a moment, toss a R5 coin into their guitar case, and then move along towards the chaos that is Adderley Street. But every so often you find a performance that makes you want to sit down and just stay there for the rest of the day.
A viral video has been going around town that shows a busking duo performing a Rihanna cover, and although not as dramatic as the killer squirrel, the voice that rings through the leafy park when this lady sings makes you wonder why they aren’t on a proper stage.
Known as Street Wise Band, the duo has been enthralling Cape Townians so much that they have now launched their own TikTok channel. The two singers, referred to as Millicent and Tabani have since begun sharing their performances, both impromptu and even at some events.
Their performance of Rihanna’s ‘Love on the Brain’ was captured by a TikTok user, and once you hear it, you will ask ‘Rihanna who?’ Check it out:

We focus on all the big stars and their lavish lifestyles way too much. Sometimes the brightest stars are right on our doorstep.
