Netflix is getting a new steamy rom-com from the producers of Anyone but You – which starred Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell if you haven’t seen it yet.
This one stars a slightly older blonde and a slightly more well-known male lead; Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron, who are already getting all hot and flustered in the trailer for A Family Affair.
The storyline is said to take an episode from The Office and run with it, per Mashable, which recalls Season 6, episode 7, The Lover, wherein Pam Beesley comes to the horror realisation that her mum Helene and her boss Michael Scott were engaged in amorous congress.
In Netflix’s latest romantic comedy, Zara (Joey King from Kissing Booth) is forced to endure an overtly lusty relationship between her mum (Kidman) and her boss (Efron). To elaborate, Efron is a self-absorbed movie star and King is his assistant, so when her mum Kidman starts an unexpected romance with him, things get weird.
“I am starting to feel things that I never thought I would feel again, not since your father died,” Brooke admits to her daughter in the trailer. Zara roars back at her mother, “No! You did not just say that!”
Directed by Richard Lagravenese and written by Carrie Solomon, A Family Affair may still give some the ick but promises to turn this awkward situation into a heartfelt dalliance and then into unexpected love. Who can say eeuw to that?
A Family Affair is streaming on Netflix from June 28.
